The quiver: what is in the rack now, and why it got smaller

Updated 2026-09-20

What is actually in the rack right now, and why it is smaller than it used to be. The quiver holds 29 boards today, down from 54 at the start of a single year. This section covers how that cut actually happened, and points to the boards that have their own video and their own page.

The cut from 54 to 29

I started 2025 with 54 surfboards and sold 25 of them within the year, landing on 29. That story, including the four boards that were genuinely hard to let go and exactly why, is on the purge.

Boards I have talked about

Not every board in the rack gets its own page here, only the ones a video actually covers in enough detail to write something real. A handful worth starting with:

The full set of board pages, and what has to be true before a board earns one, is on the boards hub.

How to decide which boards to keep

Cutting 54 boards down to 29 was never really about the money from selling 25 of them. Once a board keeps losing out to something else in the rack, session after session, that is the signal it is done, regardless of how good it still is on its own. What is left once the cutting stops is a rack where every board earns its place, with less time spent deciding which one to grab and nothing kept around out of habit.

Questions people ask

How many boards do you actually recommend owning?

There is no single number that fits everyone. My own answer, and the reasoning behind it, is on how many surfboards do you need.

Why doesn't every board get its own page here?

A page needs a video that actually shows and talks through that specific board. A board that only got a passing mention, or never made it into a video at all, stays off the boards hub rather than getting a page built on guesswork.

Is the quiver still changing?

It moves in both directions over time. A board tends to leave once something else in the rack is already doing its job better, board after board, the same pattern behind the cut from 54 to 29.

Where do the numbers on cost and resale come from?

The general pattern, by brand and by style, is on what holds value when you sell a surfboard.
